As a result of devastation experienced over the past two years, many of us have found ourselves, family members or acquaintances fighting the war against hunger, homelessness or facing fears of other economic uncertainties. We have also endured many broken promises and fraudulent, predatory and unscrupulous practices.

As patriots, we embrace the core values of the American Dream--freedom, citizenship, equality and opportunties for homeownership. For many, that Dream has slowly faded. These difficult times demand that we embark on a journey to its resurrection--we CAN salvage the opportunity and the hope that this country offers. As we rise to face life's challenges, we must WORK TOGETHER, hand in hand; SPEAK IN UNISON, as one voice, that resonates the halls of justice until all of us are afforded opportunities for equitable recovery.

However, we must also give thanks, for we are not traveling this road alone. In the midst of these trials, volunteers continue to come to our rescue--armed not only with power tools, but also the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a healing message, a listening ear, an honest compliment---a total care package.

Volunteers sacrifice time away from families and jobs. Sadly, some have even made the ultimate sacrifice of their own lives to answer our pleas for help. Many have slept outdoors, gutted and repaired homes in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, suffered multiple injuries and missed memorable family events to aid new-found friends of the Gulf Coast. Through it all, they never complain.

It is my hope that heartfelt appreciation is conveyed by all those you meet. From those you do not meet, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast collectively, please accept these words of gratitude.
